French town in the heart of Languedoc with its legendary fortified city of Carcassonne will completely immerse you in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages. This majestic ancient citadel is a unique masterpiece of military and defensive architecture. It is protected by the French as the national treasure.
A lot of buildings in this town, namely the 12th century count’s castle, basilica of Saint-Nazaire, St. Michael’s Cathedral, Place Carnot, where famous Fountain of Neptune is situated, magnificent Canal du Midi (Canal in Southern France) and Roman well are full of legends and interesting stories. Because of a great variety of museums situated at the fortified city it is difficult to choose which one to visit. However, it is impossible not to focus your attention on the unique Musée de I'Inquisition (Museum of Inquisition). Known since the old times electric chair, guillotine, chastity belt, garrote and rack, skull’s extractor and Scold’s bridle are presented here.
